Newham is committed to maintaining a free, universal, local offer to support expectant parents and families with children aged 0-5 to give their child the best start in life. Investment in the early years is critical to securing positive outcomes later in life. The Best Start in Life (BSiL) ‘guarantee’ to families begins with a strong health offer from pregnancy and provides support to parents throughout the early stages of their child’s life. The programme integrates health, early learning and parenting practitioners and will be delivered from a range of neighbourhood venues. Maryland Children’s Centre and Kay Rowe Nursery School and Children’s Centre in Forest Gate North is one of Newham’s eight community neighbourhoods that have joined together.
Maryland Children’s Centre is open 5 days a week from 8.00am-5.00pm throughout the year excluding public holidays and notified selected closures. our qualified and dedicated team are committed to providing a clean, safe, and stimulating environment where children and parents can learn through play. The team currently has 3 members, Terena Bennett – Deputy Coordinator for Forest Gate North Community Neighbourhood and BSil Senior Practitioner, Sonia Thomas- Senior Family Support Worker and Sophia Skeen Senior Outreach Officer. Information, advice and support are widely available through us and our many working partnerships. Our Children’s Centre and service providers work to ensure that the individual needs of our families are met and we always endeavour to provide them with the best start in life. A range of specialist services include Baby group, Baby check-up clinic, Parent and Toddler groups, Adult training and 30 minute legal advice sessions from Duncan Lewis Solicitors for any parent that may need this support. All services are FREE.
Relations with the health visitors, speech and language, Job Centre Plus and family learning are the foundation to the universal services provided (please see our activity guide for a full range of services from Maryland Children’s Centre and Kay Rowe Nursery School and Children’s Centre).
